WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE 16th
ANNUAL LIVE, SILENT & ONLINE AUCTION? To support
our children by raising money to keep tuition affordable & provide
a quality Christian education.
We also want to strengthen our school and relationships by fostering
leadership and opportunities to serve the school.
And we hope to build a sense of community by all working together
toward this common goal.
HOW MUCH DOES THE AUCTION RAISE FOR WSCS?
This year, the Auction Committee hopes we can all pitch in and
raise over $30,000 from this event.
WHAT DO YOU WANT EACH FAMILY TO DO? Set aside the
date and plan to attend – invite friends and family, there is something
for everyone and it’s a wonderful evening out “without the kids”!
Formal invitations will be sent out in a few weeks.
The formula is simple: Greater Attendance
= Greater Fund Raising = Lower Tuition + Excellent Programs
Make a family donation – We are asking each family to donate either
a “themed basket” or an item or service suitable for auction.
---Specialty baskets are always a hit such as handmade articles,
coffee/tea assortment, or an array of books. So are services; bringing
great bids at auction and incur less out of pocket expense than
other donations. This can encompass many, many different ideas and
areas. Be creative! Maybe you or a family member have a talent you
can offer such as landscaping, cooking, rototilling, housecleaning,
painting, etc. and we will create a beautiful framed gift certificate
for the Auction. Our “dessert of the month” or “dinner of the month”
auction items are a huge success (you choose one month, not all
12)! We can help with ideas, big and small...
---Families are encouraged to get together and create a large themed
basket or purchase a large ticket item like Broadway tickets, restaurant
gift certificates, a gaming system or an electronic item.
Contribute to each of your child’s Class Theme Baskets
– see the attached list for your class’s assigned theme and item
ideas. Please pick an item or two from each of your child’s classes
to help create an Auction Basket that is sure to delight.
The Auction Committee is often asked, “How can I
contribute all these items if I am on a budget?”
Simply leave a merchant letter with the businesses you
frequent for a donation: The Auction Committee has
been hard at work for months soliciting the local businesses in
our area for donations of gift certificates or merchandise. We have
found businesses are very happy to donate to their loyal customers
(much more so than to a committee member they don’t know). Their
donation is tax-deductible and they will be listed as donor on our
website and the printed journal.
Here’s how to do it: Keep the attached envelope in your car and
when you go on your errands, please give them one of the enclosed
letters. You don’t have to say anything other than “Can
I leave this for you to look at when you have time?” If they say they already received a letter or visit from the Auction Committee, just say sorry and hope they were able to make a donation!
Remember: Barber
shops, hair dressers, convenience stores, pizza parlors, Chinese
food, shoe stores, diners, florist, dry cleaners, auto mechanic,
dance schools, butcher, gyms, and many more!
We will do the follow-ups: If you are not given a donation but leave
the letter, let the Auction Committee know and we will do the follow-up
calls. You can email us at auction@wscs.org,
send it in by backpack, or call the main office with the information.
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
Send us an e-mail using the “Contact Us” button in the menu above.
We need every hand we can get! The Auction Committee will also be
meeting after school each Friday from now until the live event. Children,
ideas, and helping hands are all welcome! WHAT IS

WHAT IS A "SILENT AUCTION"? Local
merchants and WSCS families donate some of the many items that will
be displayed in the Atrium overlook during the Auction. Some are
certificates for services and goods; others are items like jewelry
& hand crafted items. Each guest has a bid number. You can go around
the room and write your bid number next to the $$ bid you wish to
make. When that Silent Auction closes, the highest bidder "wins"
the item.
HOW AND WHEN DO I BID AND PAY FOR SILENT AUCTION
ITEMS? When biding, please use your assigned bid
number when filling out the bid sheet or you will not get your item.
You will need to stay until the close of the entire auction evening
in order to pay for the item.
CAN I BID ANY AMOUNT? No, there
is a starting bid listed on the sheet. After that, you must go up
by a certain increment. For example: A Restaurant $50 Gift Certificate,
bidding may start at $25. Increments are $5. So if there is a bid
of $30 you must be willing to bid $35 to "go over" the last bidder.
Starting bid and increments will vary for each item and be clearly
noted.
WHAT IS THE "LIVE AUCTION?" After
the Silent Auction closes, everyone moves into the dining room,
where the "Live Auction" items are displayed. These are usually
bigger items, and baskets that each class makes. This is the traditional
auction, with a real auctioneer taking bids. If you want to bid
on an item in the Live Auction, all you have to do is hold up your
bid paddle and make sure the auctioneer notices you! After dinner,
the Live Auction will begin.
HOW MUCH DOES ATTENDING THE EVENT COST?
The cost is $34.00 per ticket. This covers Dinner and Dessert
at the beautiful atrium hotel, Islandia Marriott. Marriott is known
for its excellent catering. This is a grown-up party, so 21 and
over, please.
WHO SHOULD I INVITE? Grandparents,
relatives, friends who like to support Christian education, Alumni,
Friends who like getting great deals. Make a date with another WSCS
family and tell them you can have fun together!
HOW DO I PURCHASE TICKETS? Send
back the reply card from your invitation or use the website Google
Cart to pay.
WILL I GET AN ACTUAL TICKET? No,
you will receive a receipt of purchase. Your name will be held at
the door for check-in.
WHAT IF I CAN'T COME, CAN I STILL BID ON ITEMS?
It would be great if you did! Call a friend and ask them to place
your bids for you.
HOW DO I GET BUSINESSES TO DONATE ITEMS?
On this Web site, you can down load Sponsor Forms and Merchant
Letters. Mail or drop these off at businesses where you do a lot
of purchasing. Usually, owners are glad to support your kids. The
more personal you can make the request, the better.
WHAT KIND OF DONATIONS ARE BEST? Imagine
what you'd like to buy at the Auction: restaurant certificates,
movie passes, jewelry, classes for kids are all hot sellers. People
seem to like vacation getaways like hotel stays or tours in the
wine country. Does someone you know have a vacation home they'd
donate for a weekend?
CAN I GET CREATIVE WITH MY DONATIONS?
Absolutely!! One family organizes a softball game and auctions
off the chance to play in it and attend the picnic. One mom will
teach you how to make great Italian dishes. Why not offer to make
2 dozen tamales? Or tutor another child in Math?
WHAT IF I CAN'T COME TO THE AUCTION, ARE THERE OTHER
WAYS I CAN HELP? Sure! We need people to make calls,
pick up items, make copies, do data entry….there are literally hundreds
of tasks that can only be done if everyone in the WSCS community
pulls together. Call or e-mail to volunteer.
HOW DO I KNOW WHAT ITEMS THERE WILL BE TO BID ON?
You can check out the Online Auction. All items will be listed
there; Live, Silent and Online only.
DO I HAVE TO HAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND TO
ENJOY MYSELF? No! There is always great food and
great company. Your teachers are almost always there, so there will
be someone you know. And…you can usually walk away with some great
bargains! Items start selling for around $10-20. Often you can find
items you might buy anyway: Dry Cleaning certificates, haircuts,
tuition to a great Summer Camp for your kids… |
